Storming Atlanta

the-girls-at-the-openingA quick week-end trip to greater Atlanta; a trip we women of f/4 studio thought was purely for fun turned out to be oh-so-much more.

In our infancy as a group, we needed the time to bond, to brainstorm, and to chart our course.  While riding in the car and while sharing delicious meals, we talked…and talked…and talked.  The ideas, the plans, and the goals flowed freely.

Visiting the stunning exhibit at the Jackson Fine Art Gallery featuring the work of Michael Kenna fed our souls.  The ‘oohs’ and ‘ahs’ as we moved from piece to piece were audible.  We simply could not control ourselves.  When the exhibit curator said, “I can tell you are photographers.  Would you care to see more?” we immediately – in unison – declared a resounding “Yes!”  The curator then opened drawers containing even more of Kenna’s stunning work for us to savor and enjoy.

Our evening agenda included attending the opening reception for Nature Undisturbed, a juried photography exhibit held in the Serenbe Photography Center, Palmetto GA.  Imagine my surprise upon learning that one of my two pieces in the exhibit, “Pondering Reeds and Lilies,” had been awarded first place in the open category.  I was so thankful my friends had encouraged me to travel to the opening.

To round out our quick Atlanta trip, we were fortunate enough to go shooting the next morning with some new photographer friends we had met at the reception the night before.  (Pictures posted HERE.)

Could anyone ask for more – food, fellowship, inspiring photography, a first place win, and going on a photo outing in a new location?  Truly all of the elements of a GREAT week-end!
