Shack Attack

MLK

I love driving the backroads. There are so many unexpected treasures especially when you love to photograph old, abandoned structures. My favorite is photographing old abandoned shacks. When I find one my heart starts pounding so hard, partly because of the anticipation of what might be inside and partly because I’m hoping I will not be arrested or shot at. Neither have happened yet but I have had a couple of close calls.

As I’m exploring I wonder who lived there and what their life must have been like and how long the shack has been abandoned. I’m always surprised by what is left behind and that often gives me clues about the people that lived there.

These photographs are some of my favorites.
