Individual and Unique

By now, you know that the women of f/4 Studio are a group of photographers who enjoy creating photographic art with their cameras. You also know that we have fun together, go on outings together, challenge each other, inspire each other, and … well, the list goes on and on.

An aspect that fascinates me is how, while being part of a group that goes on outings and photographs together, we remain individual and unique with regards to our imagery.  There is no better example of that than reading the last couple of our blog posts which feature images all photographed during the month of October.  (You might want to re-visit “Fooling With Fall” and “The Back Roads”)

We often good-naturedly laugh at each other when photographing together.

Sandy is known for quickly getting in, getting her shots, and getting out. Very efficient with her photography, Sandy is always the first one back to the car.  And, her technique certainly works for her!

Sharon, on the other hand, appears to be the most methodical of the group.  She ponders, reflects, studies…and often explores many techniques to capture her vision.

I’m not sure what the others would say about me, but I feel like I walk around and around and around the location looking up, down, and around (oh, I said that!), often taking many, many images while trying to find the few images that truly speak to me.

What ever method is used to explore a location, we have learned that it is valuable to trust one’s instincts and remain true to one’s own personal vision.  I cherish that gift that’s been given; the gift of camaraderie that f/4 Studio brings while being able to  pursue my own individual and unique photographic vision.

This is a special post for getting to know you 4 women a bit better by how you have just described your photographing style, Sue. How fun. I actually think my style is a lot like yours. Imagine that. HA! I take lots of photos and even make collages of them to show all the sides on my journal blog…and then I might pick one of them to “manipulate” into a work of art for my other blog. It’s true that we each DO have our own individual photographic vision, which makes our world go ’round. I like that. 🙂
