Autumn in the South is nice. A break from the unrelenting humidity of the summer. Trees turn yellow. A chance to get out into the gardens that were abandoned in the summer heat.
But nothing beats the autumn in New England. I was in Connecticut last week and it was glorious. Not only does the fall look different up there, it smells different. A little more primal. More woodsy. I had a chance to walk in one of my favorite places, Hubbard Park, in my hometown of Meriden. Much of my youth was spent there, swimming in the summer, skating in the winter. I wish it could have been bottled and brought home to Nashville.
