Sharon, Sandy, and I recently went on a quick photo outing at Bowie State Park located in Fairview TN. It’s really a nice spot for families with children; clean picnic areas; wide, safe walking trails; and several interesting ponds.
The main pond is clear of brush and clutter and when we arrived it was sparkling in the early morning sunlight. Beautiful reflections were calling my name…however, the group decided to explore the other ponds that one needed to take a brief hike to discover.
You can imagine my disappointment when the smaller ponds we hiked to looked like this!
If you know me and my photography preferences, you know that cluttered scenes aren’t typically my ‘forte.’
Trying to be a good sport, and trying to make the best of a beautiful morning in nature, I began my search for some images that were more to my preference and photographic tendencies.
I sat down on a bench, took a couple of deep, cleansing breaths, relaxed a little, and let my eyes absorb my surroundings. Much to my surprise – and pleasure – slowly but surely images began to present themselves to me. I ended up being quite pleased with a couple of images from the outing.
Lesson learned: Take your time. Relax. The images are there…but are not always the first thing you see!
